"Hi, I'm Jim Leske, animal trainer for Expert Village. Today I want to talk to you about animals in disasters. As an example, we recently had to deal with the devastating wildfires here in Southern California. One of the things that I want to talk about is that many animals were left behind by their owners. You've got to remember, be prepared. You have to be prepared. You have to have an evacuation plan that includes your pets. If you don't have one, make one. Remember, in some cases you can't take your pets with you, so you have to make alternative plans, such as at the local state fairgrounds, your local SPCA or animal shelter, friends or relatives in another neighborhood. You can't leave them behind. A lot of people thought that their animals would live through these devastating fires if they were simply let free. Animals that live in captivity do not have survival skills. They cannot survive on their own in the wild. They depend on you, their owner, for everything that their life needs, including protection from the elements. With that said, I hope this helps you and your pets live a long and healthy life and I'm Jim Leske, animal trainer."
