How to Train a Dog to Lie Down

"Hi, I'm Jim Leske, animal trainer with Expert Village. Today we're talking about some basic commands and this particular one is down. In the down, we always use this when we are from starting in the sit position and so Bear is already sitting so good sit, Bear. See he's a little distracted. Now what I'm going to do is I'm going to make the letter L as in lie down with him, down, very good boy, very very very very good, very good. Simple trick, there is that if I make the L too big, he's going to walk towards it, if I make the L too short, he's just going to bend over and pick it up so those are your things not to do. We'll do this one more time. Bear, up, very good boy, sit, very good boy, down, very good, good down, very very very good. So that's down.
