"Hi. I'm Jim Leske, Animal Trainer Behaviorist for Expert Village. Today we are working with our dogs a little bit more advanced training. Remember we got here very very gradually. Today’s session is about Reaction to Distractions. When you deal with a service kind of dog or a therapy dog remember anything could happen in a hospital environment or on the streets of a service animal. So, we want to start desensitizing them to lots of noise. So they are both in a down, stay position; doing very very good. Stay. Very good. Very very very good. This is liking what could happen in a hospital. Somebody is ill or having some kind of physical problems, they often times trip over a chair. You can use this; start by dropping a book. Remember you what to be a little bit further away so you get very little or no reaction. Then gradually build it closer and closer together. Look, here we moved the chair a little bit closer. Now they are back in training mode. Same thing, stay. Very good. Very good. The key there is that you didn’t see them jump, you didn’t see them bark. They didn’t urinate on themselves. That's what we are looking for right there. Gradual, gradual progress. So good job for Bear and Tess. I’m Jim Leske and you're on Expert Village."
