" Hi! This is Elise Paffrath from Breeze Thru Agility. I am talking about dog agility training on behalf of Expert Village.com. We are going to talk about the weave poles. The weave poles are without discussion the most difficult obstacle the dog learns in dog agility. The slalom style behavior of going in and out of the weaves is unlike anything else that the dog does in normal life. So there is a lot of ways to teach the weaves but it is really important that you be positive, that you take it slow and the dog enjoys doing them. I’d like to start with training weaves, Stay!, which are channels that the dog goes through without really having to weave at the beginning, Okay!, Good!, so the dog is just going through the poles slowly, over the months, you move them together, so that the dog has to do a little bit more actual weaving, Okay!, so you see, she is starting to wiggle a little bit, then as the months go by, Okay! Good girl!, always reward, you can also, Sit!, Stay!, get the dog to go ahead to the end by using the good old target, Okay!, Good girl. The final product after months and sometimes years of training looks something like this, Ready Okay!, Good girl!, so that is a little bit about weave pole training."
