" Hi! My name is Gretchen Brown. I have been teaching conformation training and handling professionally for 20 some odd years. I am coming today on behalf of expertvillage.com to teach you how to train and show your show dog. I like to table train my dogs because it is easier for me. It is one of the ways you can get them reliable in their stack. On a young puppy I like to put him up on the table and teach them to stand quietly while I look at them. It is good for the vet because they are accustomed to being up on above normal ground level. It is easier for you to check over and see if there is anything wrong. Generally I will put a puppy up on the table or a novice dog and just stand them there the whole time while I am moving their body parts around tell them that they are a good dog. I do not worry about making sure they are in a perfect stack, just that they are comfortable. Once you get them table trained it is much easier to work with them, some breeds require being shown on a table, Labrador is not one of them. Most of your smaller breeds are put on a table for the judge to examine them. I teach every dog I own to stand quietly on a table. You need to review breed standard again and see whether or not yours is one of the breeds that is shown on a table. I hope I have been of some help to you this afternoon. You can contact me through the website commanddogtraining.com. We run classes every Wednesday night and we are based out at Fort Lauderdale. Thank you. "
