"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Carlos Puentes with K-9 Solutions Dog Training in Miami, Florida, and today we're going to talk about dog training myths from my new book, Who's Training Whom? Myth number 6: A lot of times people figure they have to hit the dog or yell at him from the top of their lungs for the dog to figure out they're the boss. It's not going to make you a winner by hitting the dog. In fact, your hands are negative. Hands should be the nicest thing in the world. Newspaper; worst thing you can do. You never want to do this to your dog. Had he been hit, he would have flinched. Dogs don't lie. That's no good. Later a kid comes to touch the dog, anybody, it doesn't have to be a kid. This is the last time I'm going to let a hand get near me and he bites, or eventually bites. Use the tools. The right type of tools, leash, collar. You want to correct the dog. That will communicate with them if you're not happy with them, and your hands are still the best thing in the world. Right? That's right. Okay, I love you too."
