"Hi, this is Elise McMahon for ExpertVillage.com. And, in this video series, we're talking about teaching your dog a reliable recall. If you'd like to find out more about my services, you can visit my website at canineheadstart.com. So, in this video clip, we're going to be talking about going from working on leash to working off leash. In this video clip, we're actually talking about on leash work with your dog. This is a fifty foot long line. This is a great device to start working out in unconfined areas with your dog to make sure that they're actually going to come back to you and actually control the situation if they ignore your recall. Of course, remember, since one of the first rules is you're never going to call your dog unless you're sure their going to come. You shouldn't be using your recall if you're not quite sure they're going to come. But, let's say you misjudge the situation. You give your recall. The dog ignores you. If they're on a leash, you can bring them in to you, rewarding them and reinforcing them the whole way. So, to demonstrate how this works with a dog on the long line, I've got Teddy here. I'm hooking him up to his leash. And, I can just leave him sit right where he is and move back away across the room. I've got the dog on a long line. Teddy, come. Yes, what a good puppy. Good boy. Good puppy. Let's have Sue call him back to her. Teddy, come. Teddy, come. Good boy. Oops. There we go. Good job. Good boy. So, this is working with your dog on a long line. Again, a great tool if you're going to be working out in a field, or if you're going to be working in the woods, anywhere outside to give your dog a little bit more freedom rather than working inside in a confined area. You always want to start with a dog on a long line."
