"Hi! I am Charlie McCanna. On behalf of Expert village.com, I am going to talk to you today a little bit about obedience training. I brought my buddy Heidi along with me, and she is going to help us out. Now Heidi is a master hunter and a hunting retriever champion, so these are a little basic for her, but I think she will do for our demonstration. We are going to talk about the command “here,” or some people use the term “come.” Now, when you have got your dog at heel, and your dog is sitting stationary, and you want them to stay, of course we have already gone over the stay. To practice this you step away and keep a longer lead. Then when you want your dog to come to you, you simply say “Heidi here.” They should come to the heel position that you have already taught them. And then you can repeat this… sit… repeat this over and over again… Heidi here… until it becomes second nature. After a while you can be across the room, across the field, and when you call your dog and tell them here or come, whichever term you prefer to use, your dog should and will come. And reinforce this on a daily basis; reinforcement is the key in any type of training with an animal. That should get you started on the here command, and I think you will have a lot of success if you just have a lot of patience. Thank you very much."
