"Hi! I am Charlie McCanna, and on behalf of Expert Village.com, I am going to talk to you today a little bit about obedience training. I brought my buddy Heidi along with me to help us out. Heidi is an expert, but we will pretend that she is a junior dog. We are going work on the command “down.” Now Heidi knows this command, but when you are working with a puppy on the command down, you need to first have the “sit” down. We have already talked about the command for sit, and when you get to the command down, the best way to get started on it is to tell your dog “down” and tug him… down until they lie down. Lots of praise. Some people like to give chewies or treats and what not. I personally feel that the dog gets enough excitement and pleasure out of just being praised, and a lot of petting too. Heidi… heel… heel… heel… a little tug on the collar would often take care of any problems. Once you work on this quite a bit, you will find that you can just simply say Heidi down and your dog will do so. That will get you started on the down part of the job, and then when you are inside and your dog has been pestering you, you can simply say Heidi down, and they will get out of your hair. Thank you very much and have a nice day."
