"You should practice teaching your dog to sit in as many different places as you possibly can. The reason for this is that dogs don't generalize well. So, everyone knows about the dog that performs well at home, or in the kitchen, where they are used to practicing the behavior. You want to take this sit, and practice it with your dog in front of the house, behind the house, at the park, in front of the dog park, in front of a gas station, or a grocery store. So the dog will generalize that sit will happen no matter where he is. This is especially important if your dog were to get out at a rest area for example, and the dog will take off because he has no idea that he's supposed to obey in that type of situation. So it's going to be as simple as taking your lure treats, and making it happen, no matter where you may be going. So, I'll just practice her sit, good girl, and then off you go to a next area, and have that practice. If you're going for a ride with your dog, stop at a couple different places, and let them experience training in those locations, so you're sure to have her obey you when it's most necessary."
