"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Carl Puentes of K-9 Solutions in Miami, Florida and today I am going to show you dog training techniques from my new book, "Who is Training Whom." You want to have proper leash control when you are training a dog. Most people put the loop in their wrist, they wrap it around their hand, they grab it here, they feel pretty comfortable with it this way. If you do it, you will lose control of the leash immediately when you are training the dog and if you lose control of the leash, you will lose control of the dog. The best way to do it is put your hand in the loop and grab it one time; one fold in your hand so that it hangs around your knee. It may be a little bit higher depending on your size, or a little longer but in general around this area right here and this way you will have more control over the dog. "
