"We're going to show you how to have your dog sit to be pet. It's going to make her polite when people are coming up to, or approaching your dog. That the dog automatically sits, looks up at you, or looks up at the person, and can politely be petted. This entails maybe setting her up for success, with a few friends that will come up, and then you will offer them a treat to give to your dog. If it's a stranger, you can also ask them to assist in training your dog, and tell them to please treat the dog. I'm going to have Sadie stand, and if you would just show her the treat, and raise it over her nose. Bring it forward, excellent. Now, treat her. Now, I'm going to ask you when you pet her, to please pet her under her chin, rather than on top of her head. Very nice; say thank you, Sadie. Thank you. What this will help is keep the dog sitting, instead of jumping up. If I pat my dog on the head, it's getting them more stimulated. They're more likely to jump up, and I certainly don't want that to happen with a stranger. Keeping your dog polite will make them welcome in many places."
