"We're going to work with a sit with distraction, and what that entails is a dog to remain sitting when somebody may be going by; when it might be a dog, a car, or it may be a bunch of children running by. So you want to make sure that the dog looks up to you, and is waiting for your cue, or your command to go forward. So, what this will entail is pretty simple. We're starting from a sit position, with the dog sitting at my side. I'll have a distraction that will approach, and all I'm asking my dog to do is remain in the sit. Because she did, she receives a reward. She can look over at whatever it was that caught her attention, but the main thing is that the dog will sit, and remain in that spot. Now, she did a good job. In case she didn't, what I would have done would be to simply step forward, lure her around, and then place her back into a sit position. Again, we will not use the command to sit, because she already was told to do that. So, this is the same exercise that makes the dog understand that she does not break until you get up and walk away."
