"I’m Terry Thomas. I’m here on ExpertVillage.com to bring you a little about the appreciation of wine. So actually looking at storing the wine, ideally keeping a wine below 70 and keeping it in a quiet, dark, cool place should not be a problem for your wines. Whites would probably last 5 years generally speaking. Most of your big reds would last 10 to 15 years in this way. Now if you can keep them cooler, that’s wonderful and they’ll even do better, but never the less they’re not in great danger. People use to talk about sitting a wine on its side and they say if you sit it upright the cork will dry out, well this is a bunch of malarkey. You know if you let a wine sit upright for 10 years, yeah you might run into a little problem but I think it’s a lot over done, I think it’s a myth, I think that again just using common sense, keeping the wine in a cool, dark place is a good practice and it should keep most of your wine and I don’t think there’s a problem."
