"I’m Terry Thomas. I’m here on ExpertVillage.com to bring you a little about the appreciation of wine. Let’s look at one of the criteria in buying and that’s vintages, those are the years. That’s Mother Nature’s record and Mother Nature played such an important and such a crucial role in the making of wine. Now a lot of technology has gone into this and they’ve done a much better job, but still there’s just so much you can do with late freezes in the spring that knock off a lot of the buds for the grapes. There are a lot of diseases out there; there are rains that happen right at harvest that just totally dilute the grapes and the juice and all. There are a lot of things that just cannot be dealt with and so again vintages are of note. There’s not something you live and die by but they are certainly worth noting and I’d say that there are enough people who make their living in wine that have determined and they built a calendar over what each area throughout the world, what that year was like as far as producing greats. And their good to note, they’re not good to live by, but they are good to note. So the vintage again is one of the criteria in looking at your wine and whatever. "
