Rake Dog Grooming Tool

"Another type of grooming tool that's convenient to use on a long coated breed is called the rake. There's a number of different kinds of rakes. I have a couple here that I want to show you. We have 2 similar style rakes here so they both have a handle at the base with the tines coming out on one side. This one has got longer tines obviously, than this one and they've got a flat back. This is a lightweight all plastic. This is a combination of plastic and metal. You're going to choose the type of rake you want based on what's most comfortable for you to use and what your goal is with the coat. This rake has the moving tines as in the comb I showed you. Again, this is probably not going to come up, but you can see these tines are flexible and they rotate in the base. This is going to be comfortable for the dog as it goes through it's coat. You're going to use a rake on a coat that's already been brushed out. You would not rake through a matted coat, but the rake is a nice way to see that you've got all the mattes out of a particular section. It also will get extra undercoat if there's extra undercoat to be taken out. Again, this is the rotating type rake and then we've got our other rake. Shorter tines and they're firmly fixed in the base of the rake. Again, it's a good tool for taking out undercoat. Brush through the dog's coat and you would not brush through a matted coat with a rake, but you would use it to take the undercoat out of a dog that you've brushed through thoroughly."
