"Now this dog hasn't been brushed in a week, so his hair has a couple of little matted areas. Here's one right back here so this is a tender soft area back here behind the leg. You want to be careful while you are brushing. You've got some mat, here's some matted areas here. So I'm going to separate the coat and I am going to work on gradually from one side, holding the hair down so that I am not pulling a lot. You can see the dog is comfortable and relaxed while I am pulling through some mats here. Okay, through the mat keep going up and I am getting to the point as we get further up here, that I am working on longer coat hair. Working all the way up the leg, up the coat. If I find a spot as I am going up that might be a little bit matted, I am separating the hair. I'm not just pulling the brush through and ripping it through. I'm separating the hair to find out where that point of resistance is. I might need to work it right back down. Once I've got the leg what I feel is brushed out with my slicker brush, I am going to take my pin brush and run it through. If I don't feel any snags with the pin brush, I am going to test my work with my comb. I am going to take my comb and see if I can run it through the leg hair. If I get stuck, then there's a mat down there. So I can locate that area with the mat, work it through my brush or comb. Okay, you are going to gradually lift the leg. You are going to start at the base gradually work your way up doing section at a time. "
