"Hi! My name is Yessenia and I'm here with my mother Sanjuana. On behalf of Expert Village, we're going to show you how to make authentic Mexican tamales. Now that it's been cooking for a few hours, we're going to grab one and see if they’re ready. How do we know that they're ready? When you see that the tamale is actually peeling off of the cornhusk. You can see this one is pulling off pretty easily. That means they're ready. Here we have a plate full of tamales nice and warm. Generally, tamales are served with some type of Mexican salsa. This is the salsa that my mom makes. You put the salsa over the tamale. Generally, tamales are used in the Mexican tradition for events like Christmas. Versus the turkey, Mexicans will usually eat tamales instead. Birthdays, anniversaries. It's the typical food that Mexicans eat during the festive times. My mother was telling us a story of how in the tradition if you're making tamales and they're being cooked, even though it's 3 hours of time that you have to wait, you're not supposed to go outside, or else some of them will be cooked and some of them will come out raw. She said that she's tried it in the past and it actually happen. You want to make sure that you stay inside when you're making your tamales so you can enjoy some delicious Mexican authentic like this."
