Series Summary

Hockey somehow has the reputation for being a violent game. Which comes as quite a surprise to those of us actually know the game. Why we've seen bridge games at the senior center with more blood lust than the average hockey game. With all of these penalties to keep things in check, how could things possibly get out of control. Goodness knows that if said bridge players got penalized for snappy remarks and casual insults, they could hardly make it through a single game with a full complement of players. No, the big wigs in hockey have fixed the game so that players are so scared of getting a talking-to from the referee or an insulting remark from a rabid fan that they behave have like angels on the ice. But just in case, they keep some rules in place for the highly unlikely circumstance that a hockey player might possibly misbehave.

In the following series, an experienced hockey player and coach demonstrates the most common penalties in hockey. Learn what constitutes hooking, diving, holding, tripping, roughing and other niceties from this refined game. Not sure when you can elbow or push a hockey opponent, then this series is for you! As a guide to watching the game or a blueprint for playing it, this series will add to your enjoyment of the great game of hockey.

"A penalty in ice hockey is punishment for inappropriate behavior. When a player's given a penalty, most of the time they are placed in the penalty box, which is located in the rink. And they are there for a set number of minutes. It could be two, it could be four, five, ten minutes, depending the severity of the penalty. Different kinds of penalties minor, major, misconduct, game misconduct, match, penalty shot. Can all result into giving your team an advantage. When you are given a penalty you are, you leave your team short handed and you're basically, you'll have one or maybe even more less players than the other team for that duration. The other team has a power play so they have more an advantage. So it's important that you don't get any penalties. Now we're going to show you some different basic penalties."
