"There wasn't many years ago that 180 millimeter crank on was considered the standard for BMX riding regardless of height or size. That seems to be changing in later years as now a lot of cranks aren't offered in 180 millimeters in lighter to seem to be shorter and shorter crank ons. For me personally, I found that the ideal crank on life for me is 170 millimeters which are a lot shorter than conventional wisdom would have. The reason for this that while you get more leverage with a longer crank on which can actually make your gearing feel a little bit easier having a shoulder crank arm, gives you more even cadence and allows you to spin your feet faster. Also for somebody that has a lot of backward tricks like me, I find that having a shoulder set of crank arms allows you to back pedal much more smoothly which makes things sort fakey tricks feel much better. The same time if you're somebody who's very tall or if you're racing or even if you really like to have that extra leverage lead smash on the pedals, then running a set of 180 millimeters 185 millimeter crank ons maybe the best way for you to go. Short guys, you also are not going to want to run really long crank arms because it should relay to your, to the life of your legs. But like most things in freestyle BMX is really up for personal taste."
