"The first part about doing good rock spins is choosing a good rock. A rock that's really steep on the upstream face will be more doing rock cartwheels. A rock that's a little lower will be more rock spins right on the upstream face of it. What you want to do for a rock spin is get some forward momentum charge at the rock. If there's a lot of rock out of the water you can hit it faster. There's a little bit of water going over the top of the rock, you might want to have just enough speed so that you perch right on top of the rock. Once I hit the rock, I'm going to initiate the spin with a forward sweep. I'm going to do my forward sweep on whichever side that I think I'm going to fall off at the end to. If I'm falling off the left, my forward sweep will be begin on the left. Once I hit the rock and I get that momentum going, then I'm going to do a reverse sweep as my bow falls down. As soon as the bow begins falling down the face of the rock, wind up hard and encourage that bow down, but wait for it to be falling. As you come off of the rock, you want to be leaning down stream and looking at where you're going next."
