"When I'm surfing on a wave I can use a rudder stroke so I can run my torso all the way up or either push or pull on my boat because gravity is pulling me down on the face of the wave. All I really need to do is be able to stir my boat on the wave. If I feel like I'm on a pretty flushy feature or a spot that I'm going to get pulled down stream from I don't want to take what to take what we call forward rudders. I'm going to pull my paddle towards the back of my boat more and this is going to help me accelerate more and bring me down the face of the wave. I can also do this with more forward sweep stroke if I really need a lot more speed in order to pull me on to the wave. "
