"Okay, right out in front of me here, this is a good example of a bad hole to play in. If you look at this hole, the upstream face is a lot steeper coming down which means I’m going to have to raise my edge up quite a bit higher. Also the steepness of that just makes it a lot bouncier ride in the hold. When I’m behind the hole, there’s a lot more of an eddy of calm water that’s getting pulled back into that hole and that’s going to make it a lot sticker as well. To get out of this hole it’s hard to take forward strokes from having too much edge on your boat. So I really need to pull hard and get to the corner of the hole and just be nice and balanced when you’re in a sticky hole like this. "
