"Keeping an active paddle blade is another principle that we need to talk about. When your paddle is in the water you're more stabled. If you look at the way my paddle is oriented it acts sort of like I've got a triangle here. The blade is in the water, my boat is in the water and I'm fairly stable. If I take the paddle out of the water almost like a deer in the headlight, basically I could go off balanced pretty easy. As soon as I get that paddle back in the water it maintains my stability or it helps to anyways. I always tell people when in doubt paddle it out, keep the paddle going you're more likely to stay upright. So I'm just going to paddle around a little bit with my paddle actively working for me and then I'm going to take my paddle out of the water. When I do take my paddle out of the water you can see what happens to my boat, it kind of goes course a little bit or I might get a little unsteady and we never know what's going to happen. So take a look, I'm going to just paddle in this direction. As I'm paddling you can see that I look pretty stable. If I stop paddling I start to go off course not where I wanted to go at all. So let me keep paddling and it gets me back where I want to go. Remember think positive about your paddling and have some fun out there. When your paddle's in the water you're more stabled."
