"Today we are going to illustrate charring which is also referred to as roasting. In this case, we are not roasting meat or anything like that. We are actually going to use a chili pepper. To roast these I usually just put them directly on top of the flame here and I have an open flame. What is going to happen is we are going to char the actual skin and you will hear it popping and it is going to turn it black in color but we are not ruining it in that sense. We are going to roast it on all sides after it has turned black and the skin will peel off of this chili and that is roasting or charring a chili. "
