"All right, something that you might want to learn, is how to poke check. It's something that, if the other team has the puck, you can get the puck away, by putting your stick out, and usually defensemen are really good at this. It helps if you're good at this. A forward might be coming at you with the puck, trying to get around you, and what you're going to do as a defensemen, is you can just lunge with your stick, and try to get the puck away, but pretty much, you're going to come in and on the person's stick with the puck, and just clear it off of their stick. It prevents them from keeping control of the puck, and it gives your players, your team, another opportunity to get the free puck. It's a loose puck, so you can go after it at that point, but the poke check, you definitely want to use that to get it away from the other team. If you're a forward, you can also do that to another forward, by poke checking too, just along the boards or something, or as a stick check, by covering their stick up, and preventing them from getting the puck, if it's in the corner, or wherever the puck is. Just stop them from getting to the puck, by blocking their stick. Then they have no control to get the puck."
