"Hi, I'm Bill Rogan along with Andy Conell and on behalf of Expert Village, we are talking about fielding positions and stance. Its very important to be in a proper stance before the pitch is thrown so you're ready to go in any direction. If you're an outfielder, many times the stance just hands restly comfortably on your thighs, you don't want to be on your knees because when the ball is hit to you it takes a split second to take your hands off your knees so I always like as an outfielder, shoulder-width apart, right foot maybe a little bit back if you're a right handed thrower, throw left handed maybe the left foot a little bit back of your right foot a couple of inches its just a little bit more comfortable. As the pitch comes in thats when you want to get in your stance on the balls of your feet. You don't want to be on the heels of your feet because that will slow your reaction time down. Now as an infielder, the ball is hit at you pretty quickly, especially third base its a reaction position, you want to be nice and low to the ground, hands out in front of you nice and loose. You don't want to get in here where you got to hamper yourself. You want to be ready to go in any direction. So when the pitch is coming in, get in your stance on the balls of your feet, infielder nice and low, third baseman maybe even lower sometimes because you get rockets hit at you. Be ready to go in any direction if the ball is over this way, you want to cross over. If the ball is hit to this side, cross over this way. Stay low. If your ball is hit to your right and you come up and over, that wastes time. If you have the ball hit to your left if you come up and over, it wastes time, so what you want to do is stay low on the balls of your feet. The pitch comes in, you want to be leaning forward , you don't want to be leaning back. When I was playing, I'd watch the pitcher, the pitch comes in, get in your position, and then you pick up the batters box. You want to see the hitting zone so you see the ball come off the bat and you get a good reaction."
