How to Prepare for the Pass in a Nickel Defense

"I'm Billy Kidd here at Expert Village. We are going to talk about the nickel defense. In a nickel defense again we are talking about the secondary coverage. Defensive backs that make up the nickel defense are all skilled at covering receivers. That's why they are out here on the field. Because you're playing an offense that throws the ball a lot and you need people to cover them. Now this offense that throws the ball a lot, if you're using a nickel defense it's probably because they have at least four receivers running routes. And those four receivers they can put two on a side. Or they can do three on a side. Or they can do one on one and they could take this back out of the backfield and bring him over here and do four on a side. So they can mix it up all kinds of ways. But what they are trying to do is get the advantage on your secondary so that you can't cover everybody."
