"Hi! I’m Lisa Krone and I am here with Best Epicurean and on behalf of expertvillage.com and today I want to talk about washing dishes with your teens or your children. I have my teen here, Kyle; she is 15 and a sophomore in high school. She needs a lot of work on learning how to clean dishes, so we are going to get together and do this. One of the things I like to do is I like to assign chores to my kids that they will need later in life. So what I do is I have 2 children and they go on and off; we alternate months ,so if you ever want to know how to get them stop arguing about cleaning the dishes, that is one way. She has the month of December. The first thing I wanted to talk about was your tools. We have a lot of non-stick products that are available to us so you want to be careful about the tools that you use. This sponge with the green fuzzy or sometimes it’s a yellow fuzzy; this is great for scrubbing items like on this non-stick pan. This works just fine. You also combine this thing; it’s like a dobie pad and it is kind of like a textured plastic. You want to use that to clean. I like when Kyle cleans to use the dobie pad; you can start cleaning sweetie. She should use hot water and she should also use a dish washing liquid that has a little bit of citrus in it because I think it helps break up the grease a little bit more so I am going to open this, hand it to her, turn the water on. You don’t need to use burning hot water but it should be warm enough so that your hands can stand it because you don’t want to make your hands too rough and too dry from doing that. Another thing is that we have a lot of items that everybody owns are the ceramic items, the pizza stones and what not and you can purchase either in any mass marketer store. It’s a nylon scraper. You are not supposed to use soap with these items that are terracotta or they are porcelain because what will happen is the soap will infuse itself and everything you make from here on will taste soapy. All you use is some nice hot water, take a scraper and put under the water and bam. You want to make sure that all your dishes when you are washing them especially if it’s a product like an egg or fish product, that your soap is on your sponge and it is completely covered and you have covered the whole thing. Special attention should be also paid to utensils since people are putting that within their mouth. "
