An egg roll is an appetizer that originated in East Asia, but has spread its tasty influence throughout the world as a staple of Asian cuisine. An egg roll is made by wrapping chopped vegetables (often cabbage), meat, and occassionally noodles in a sheet of dough, dipping the dough in eggs or egg wash, and then deep frying it. Compared to the spring roll, the egg roll is usually larger, has a thicker wrapping, is crunchier, and has more filling.

"On behalf of Expert Village, I'm Laura Banford and I'm going to show you how to make shrimp egg rolls and with sesame noodles. Today we're going to make shrimp and pork egg rolls and sesame noodles. This a delicious dish, appetizer, or even a main course. If you add a salad, it's definitely a main course. I like shrimp and pork as a combination. In fact, I like pork, sausage, and shell fish together. That's the basis for a lot of Spanish dishes and a lot of Asian dishes. They seem to play off of each other. The slightly spicy, earthy pork, and succulent shrimp together. In this case, we're making spring rolls. We're going to make them nice and crisp. They're going to be crunchy on the inside because of our Asian cabbage that we're going to use, and crisp on the outside because we're going to fry them in some canola oil. That's really going to be nice and light, but crisp. Then we're going to make some sesame noodles. These can be eaten hot, cold, chilled, or room temperature. They're really versatile and the sauce that goes with them is really fun. It's a peanut sauce that also has soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and some veggies for crunch. It's delicious just on its own. Join me in the next clip when I talk about the equipment we're going to need to make these delicious dishes."
