"Whenever I go to another gym and workout, I'm always picking up something new and sometimes some of the boxers they'll come in with some experience already and we'll share some ideas, and everybody has little tricks here and there. One of the tricks I've learned as far as stopping the heavy bag, and we're going to stop it with a short, choppy left hand. What happens is if you're jabbing the bag correctly with your left, it's not going to be swinging all that much because you're going to be snapping it with a left jab. Target plus an inch. It's pretty easy to follow it up with another combination, but when you start throwing the left hand followed by a straight right, what happens is the bag is going to be swinging, okay? The right hand is not target plus an inch, the right hand is not a snappy punch, that's the rest of your power, so you're actually creating the bag a good swing. Now in order to hit that bag again, and you shouldn't hit the bag when it's coming toward you, in order to hit that bag again what we're going to do is we're going to stop it with a short, choppy left jab. Okay? So as I go one-two, I'm going to chhh...I'm just going to send out another left jab, but it's going to be a very demanding, "Hey bag, stop!" Okay? You've got to really sink some...there's a lot of it psychologically, where you're actually stopping the bag. It adds another punch to your repertoire, but it also stops that bag almost in its tracks. The other alternative to that, which I do see a lot of boxers doing, is as they hit the bag, they'll end up stopping it, catching it, and waiting until it's perfectly still before they hit it again. Of course as we all know, you can't do that in a boxing ring. So next time you want to stop that bag, throw a nice short, choppy left hand."
