"Today we're going to talk about how to pick a fresh Florida grapefruit. A good thing to look for is the color in the Florida grapefruit. You're going to look for a little bit of an orangish, but not quite, it's more of a like a, I don't know what color, like salmony color kind of. Like this one. Not these yellow ones. They are not ripe yet. You're going to need to give them some time to ripen. Most people just don't go with the yellow ones because they're not ripe unless you're going to be planning on waiting to eat them. You want to stay from any kind, stay away from any kind of bruisings like that on the skin. It probably is just on the skin. It may have not gone down to the fruit itself. It may not be that big of a deal, but most people try and stay away from it. Any kind of real soft spots, that one has a real soft spot on it. Probably a little too ripe on that one, it's got the right color, but it's got a real soft spot so I wouldn't go with anything like that. Another thing to look for when choosing a grapefruit is on how thick the skin is. Sometimes when you have a really thick skin the fruit isn't going to be as large as it looks, you know, that one looks really big. It probably just has a really thick skin on it as compared to one of these smaller ones. It's going to be roughly the same size fruit it's just, it's going to have a thicker skin. You don't want them to be real too soft. Too soft could possibly mean too ripe. It's going to be a little bit mushy when you eat it, not as firm and crisp. You really just want to pick a nice, firm, salmony color, not yellow, make sure there's no kind of green on it at all. You're really looking for that nice salmony color with a nice, firm skin on them."
