Summary: Get the proper ingredients for making General Tso Chicken; learn more about making Chinese food in this free cooking video.
With its infusions of soy sauce and five spice powder, Chinese cuisine has been making inroads in American cities, both big and small, for more than 50 years. Over time, these steamy rice and noodle-based dishes have become favorites for those in the know, who in turn have shared them with the rest of the country, thankfully. Rather than being pigeon-holed in a Chinatown setting, Chinese food has been adopted and embraced nationally, much in the same way that Mexican food has spread across the Texas landscape. While some would say that this has led to the adulteration of the true Chinese culinary experience, just like any other national cuisine, there are impostors…and then there’s the real thing.
In this free Chinese cooking class on video, learn how to make a famous dish called General Tso’s chicken (a.k.a. General Joe’s, General Gau’s, General Tao’s, General Tsao’s, General Chow’s—and a number of other variations). Our expert will walk you through the recipe, with ingredients for making the dish, the batter, and the sauce, step-by-step instructions for mixing seasonings and cutting vegetables, how to batter and fry the chicken, stir fry cooking tips, and final presentation of the dish. Don’t go out and spend $8 or $9 on some American version of a Chinese favorite. Watch these videos, practice your culinary arts, and cook it for yourself. Your taste buds will thank you.
"Hello my name is Hiu Yau on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to show how to cook general tso chicken. The ingredients for this dish are very simple we have skinless chicken thighs about 1/2 pound to a pound. We use chicken thighs because it is juicy and cheap. The other ingredients include onions, garlic, ginger. Onions we only need like a 1/4 of medium onions, ginger we only need a small chunk, green onions we only need like a 1/4 of a binge not that much. Garlic we need 2 coves and we need 3 dry chili peppers so that is all the ingredients we need."
