Series Summary

Japan being an island nation, they’ve been visited by a few explorers from time to time. One of those fated visits was from the Portuguese, around the middle of the 16th century. Among the many cultural exchanges that took place was the introduction of a particularly tasty fried dish called tempura. Up until that point, the Japanese had never experienced anything quite like it. Ever since, there’s been no question that Japan loves to fry foods just as much as the rest of the world.

In this free Asian cooking video series, learn how to make a traditional Japanese recipe for vegetable tempura. Our expert will show you what ingredients you need and how to cut and prepare them for frying. He’ll walk you through the process for mixing up the batter using chopsticks, as well as how long to cook each vegetable in a deep fryer. When you’re finished, the only thing left to do is eat. Enjoy!
