"Hi, I'm going to tell you about some special food and wine pairing topics, and one of them is wine and barbecue. Barbecue is fabulous. It's great. It's rich smoked meat, dripping with sauce and spice. It could have a lot going for it. Grill marks, sweetness, spiciness, smokiness, and the richness of meats. That's a lot of a job for a wine to do to stand up to all that. But, I've got a special type of wine that's perfect, and I call it a barbecue red. And, don't go looking at the wine store for barbecue reds. It's just something that we use to talk about the style of the wine. Our barbecue is always going to be affordable. After all, it's a backyard barbecue. Our barbecue red is also going to be full of fruit in order to stand up to any sweetness that might be in the barbecue. A barbecue red is also going to be heavy and rich, but low in tannin. That may be a hard thing to find, but you can find a barbecue red if you look for a nice Merlot, maybe from California, or from Chile. They're very fruity and low tannin. You can also look for a Malbec from Argentina, which is very fruity, and spicy, and smoky. And also, a little bit low on the tannin. My favorite barbecue red is Zinfandel from California. Spicy and smoky, and lots and lots of blackberry. And if that doesn't appeal to you, another good barbecue red is a good old Rose. Nice and fruity, almost no tannin and the perfect, nice thirst quenching cool wine to go with all that hot spice on the barbecue grill. So, look for a barbecue red. You don't have to have beer with barbecue."
