Series Summary

Pizza first came into being in Rome around the third century BC. The early version was far different from the extravagant cheese fests we are familiar with today, starting out as a simple round dough crust topped with olive oil and herbs. Today, pizza can be covered in almost anything, from mushrooms and pepperoni to anchovies and garlic. A new trend that has developed even substitutes traditional pizza dough for inventive new creations, like pizza bagels, pizza pitas and in the case of this free Expert Village video series, portobello mushrooms.

If you are looking for a healthier, more unique type of pizza, let our expert chef show you how to make portobello mushroom pizzas. Get step-by-step instructions for preparing the pizza toppings of spinach, garlic, onion and cheese, as well as tips for preparing the portobello mushrooms. Learn how to put all of your ingredients together to create a delicious and unique dinner the whole family is sure to love.

"Hey, this is Richard Buccola in New York City and today on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how to make some nice portobello pizza. Today I'm going to show you some way you can use some leftovers that you might have lying around get rid of them and also a great way to introduce the mushroom as a pizza. It is going to be a fun pizza too. It is not going to be a sauce pizza that we normally make. I'm going to pop them in the oven so you are going to have to have some great big portobellos. This is a great fun snack. Also I'm going to be putting these out for my half time special treat when I do it this year. So again this is a great snack, great appetizer. My grandmother use to make these and believe me you can put anything on them. I would go through what I'm going to put on them as far as ingredients and stuff. I would teach you everything you need to know from supplies to ingredients to utensils to making the whole thing and of course, my favorite thing eating it. So come back we are going to be putting this whole thing together. They are portobello pizza here at Expert Village."
