"This is Paul Amato on behalf of Expert Village in this clip we're going to talk about preparing a rub for your ribs. A basic rub starts off with pretty much the same ingredients paprika, salt, garlic powder and onion powder, in most cases your going to want to use equal parts of these 4 ingredients. You might want to add an equal part of black pepper it's up to you, the great thing about making a rub is experimenting with it that's we're the fun begins. Equal parts are fine for these 4 ingredients there are other ingredients I like to add and there might be more ingredients that you might even think of that your going to want to add right now I want to add to an equal part say of brown sugar then again you might. Another great example of not adding an equal part say of cayan pepper if you want to give the ribs a little of a kick. I don't think I recommend an equal part of that, that might be a little to hot for some people. One of the things that I recommend is if you add something like light brown sugar to your rub mixture it's usually clumpy and it kind of hard to mix in, what I like to do is put all the ingredients in the food processor and whip it up 2 or 3 times to get everything mix really well. Once you get all your spices ready to go just mix it together and as I mentioned you might want to put this mixture in a food processor, especially if your going to use something like a light brown sugar to give it a little bit of sweetness, that'll just help it break it up and mix it fire. Once you mix your ingredients together and you get it in the food processor to mix up say the light brown sugar that'll look something like this, I recommend making extra because believe me your going to be smoking ribs a lot once you start and kind of nice to have it available to you."
