Shepards pie, cottage pie, cowboy pie: whatever you call it, this delicious combination of meat, vegetables, and mashed potatoes was created by the English, perhaps as a solution to having nothing but an assortment of leftovers for dinner. Nevertheless, IMHO, it still stands up today as a cheap and easy meal any night of the week.
Officially, shepherd’s pie uses lamb as its main ingredient, but often, ground beef is substituted. "Hi, this is Dave for Expert Village today we're going to be making some Cajun shepherds pie. Now that we have all our ingredients and our spices let's tell you what the recipe is. If you see that all of our ingredients are out now on the board and we're ready to cook this is for a 6 Cajun serving or 8 smaller servings, depending on how much you like to eat. Were going to have 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef, 1 1/2 lb of ground pork, 2 eggs lightly beaten, 1/2 very fine dried bread crumbs, 1/4 plus three tablespoons of salted butter, 3/4 cup of finely chopped onions, 3/4 finely chopped celery, 1/2 finely chopped green pepper, 1 tablespoon plus one teaspoon of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of Tabasco sauce. The meat seasoning are going to be 2 teaspoons of ground red pepper, cayenne or as we said earlier you can do pepper if you don't like it very spicy, 1 1/2 teaspoons of salt, 1 1/2 teaspoons of pepper, 1 1/4 teaspoons of white pepper, 3/4 teaspoons of ground cumin, 3/4 of dried thyme leaves, 1/2 cups of Julianne carrots and I'll show you how to Julianne, 1/2 cup of Julianne onions. And for the vegetables seasoning mix we're going to add 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/4 teaspoon of white pepper, 1/4 teaspoon on onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/4 of cayenne or paprika, and then 1 1/2 cups of Julianne zucchini and 1 cup of Julianne yellow squash. "
