"Hi! I'm Jennifer Cail and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you how to make sweet potatoes. Amongst my ingredients that I listed, the yams, apple sauce, pineapple, and marshmallows, I didn't add either maple syrup or brown sugar, which is commonly used when making this casserole. The reason is because by using the canned sweet potatoes, there's already enough syrup in it when adding apple sauce and pineapple to it. Even though you're not adding any more sugar, you're still adding more sweet ingredients. Then of course, having the marshmallows mixed in and on top, adds more than enough sugar. Therefore, I find that not adding additional sugar makes the casserole taste better and it's not overwhelming sweetness, which you would otherwise have. This also makes it a little bit more of healthy choice for your already full Thanksgiving meal."
