Raw foodism is a trend that is sweeping the world. With global obesity figures skyrocketing, people are taking a closer look at the factors that are affecting their weight and asking, “Why are we getting so fat?” While some would say that genetics are the dominant factor, others are convinced that a large part of the answer comes in the foods we put into our bodies. Increasingly we seem to be choosing meals high in fat and sodium, but devoid of any real nutrition. These “hollow” or “empty” calories add up!
Raw foods are foods that have not been cooked above 118° F. The basic idea behind raw foodism is that essential nutrients and enzymes get cooked out of our foods at higher temperatures, causing our bodies to work harder to digest. Raw food diets tend to be very nutritious; most of the items on the menu are stout, green, leafy vegetables, nuts, fruit and berries.
If you are thinking about switching to the raw food diet, take some time and watch this free video series. Our experts, Denise Bennett and Matthew Fuller show you some raw food juices that you can make at home. If you are concerned about eating more healthily, try these healthy raw food recipes today!
"Hi! My name is Matt Fuller. This is Denise Bennet, my partner. We are experienced in the preparation of raw food, and we are here to share some of our knowledge and wisdom about the preparation of raw food and benefits. We are here on behalf of Expert Village. What we'd like to start with is a couple of juices that are very simple and very wonderfully tasting. They're very nourishing for the body. We're going to start with some carrots. For example, we're actually just going to start with a fresh carrot juice. Very, very simple. One thing that's very important that Denise and I have discovered recently. Actually, Denise is the one that discovered this and I'm so grateful for her for this. We were actually taking carrots that had just been cut off, as most people buy them in the store. As you can see, these actually still have the tops still associated with them. It's amazing the difference in flavor between a carrot that does not have these and a carrot that does. The reason is that these are still alive. There's greens right here, which is used in the process of photosynthesis, hence keeping the carrots still alive. Our first step is to actually cover to the sink and actually wash off some of our vegetables. Actually, just bring over our apple for our next one. Just so we can get our washing done now. Very simple. I just use a little cold water. Since we do normally just use organic fruits and vegetables, really all I'm doing is getting off some of the dirt that is on these. I'm not trying to get off any chemicals or pesticides, which is a wonderful thing when it comes to organic fruits and vegetables."
