Benefits of Organic Food for Vegans

"Hello, I'm Robert Cheeke, president of Vegan Bodybuilding and Fitness here in Portland, Oregon. And today on behalf of Expert Village, I'm doing a tutorial all about being vegan. Another tip when shopping for produce is to look for organic stuff, organic food. You'll typically see certified organic listed right on the label or on the food itself. And I believe most organic foods, the sticker number is going to start with a nine, and so you can spot it that way too, right on the sticker. Some reasons for this is because there's a lot of herbicides and pesticides that are used in nonorganic food, and if those things are wiping out everything else in the area but that food, that's another things that as vegans we don't necessarily want to be a part of, wiping out those insects and that whole ecosystem. Again, you're just supporting sustainability and getting typically more nutrients in the foods too because the soil's going to be of higher quality, so you're going to get a little bit more minerals and vitamins and just more quality in the food itself. So whenever possible, shop for organic food. You can find that in even mainstream health food stores these days, but especially at co-ops like this co-op we're visiting today."
