Raw foodism is a trend that is sweeping the world. With global obesity figures skyrocketing, people are taking a closer look at the factors that are affecting their body mass index and asking the question, “why are we getting so fat?” While some would say that the answer is genetic predisposition, others are convinced that a large part of the answer comes in the foods that we put in our body. And increasingly, we seem to be choosing meals high in fat and sodium content, but devoid of any real nutrition.
Raw foods are foods that have not been cooked above 118° F. The basic idea behind raw foodism is that essential nutrients and enzymes get cooked out of our foods at higher temperatures, causing our bodies to work harder to digest. Raw food diets tend to be very nutritious; most of the items on the menu are stout, green, leafy vegetables, nuts, fruit and berries.

"Hello, I'm Denise Bennett and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village. Today we are gooing to make a beautiful lunch! A raw, living foods lunch. I think what we're going to do for our menu today is, we're going to have spring rolls, a nice vegetable salad, a pate, with I think I'm going to do a carrot mousse for dessert. I hope that sounds good to you. So, we're going to start off with the vegetable salad. And I've got my beautiful bell pepper. I used to make this with hickama, I brought my hickama, but I think I'm going to switch gears here and make this with this beautiful Asian pear which I don't always find in the food store but today I did. We've got Italian parsley, and some cilantro, a little bit of basil; all of it fresh organic. The corn, unfortunately, I can't find this in organic and I do need the corn. It's a judgement call. So I always try to go organic if I can. And a little bit of red onion, and some Himalayan salt. "
