"SIMEON LOWE: Hi, my name is Simeon Lowe on behalf of Expert Village. Today, we are going to learn how to make gourmet coffee in your home. All right. In this clip, I'm going to show you how to steam milk and why we do it. First off, you're going to start with a clean container, preferably something with a handle because you don't want to burn your hand when you're trying to steam it. I'm filling it only about halfway full so that I can be able to stretch the milk when I'm steaming it. Okay. To steam the milk, you're going to start by inserting the steam wand into the milk then you're going to turn it on. Make sure that you don't turn it on before you insert it or else the milk is going to be all over. All right. Now we can hear it starting to steam. What I'm doing right now is I'm going to stretch the milk. This is creating the foam on top. You want to get about inch of foam when you're making lattes. For cappuccino, there's going to be a lot more foam so I can show you how to make one of those later. Now that I'm stretching the milk, I'm going to start to roll it and you can see that the milk is now starting to do like a rolling of fats. And this is called like marrying that's when you're mixing the milk and the foam together. To gauge how hot this is, I'm just sticking my hand on the side occasionally. You want to get the milk for a latte about up to 140 degrees. If you are a coffee drinker, you're probably used to a little bit hotter so you probably want to go up to about 165. You can gauge that by getting a thermometer and sticking it into the milk itself. All right. All right. Now that we're done, we're turning it off. Make sure that it's turned off though first before you kinda take the milk out again because it will go everywhere. As you can see, we have this nice layer of foam on top. This is perfect. Personally before I make a latte, I'm going to tap out all the bubbles and waggle it around a little bit so that all the foam in the milk is mixed together so you're not getting all foam or all milk latte."
