"One of the most versatile grapes in the world for making dessert wines is the Muscat grape. Muscat is sometimes called Orange Muscat - Muscata d'Arancia - or Moscato. It's grown in many many wine-producing regions to make sweet wines. The Muscat grape has an amazing ability to ripen for a very long time and reach very, very high levels of sugar in the raw grapes. Muscat can be made into a dry wine, and it makes an interesting dry wine, but it really, really shines as a sweet wine. Some of Italy's most famous sweet wines are made from the Muscat grape. You could try an Asti spumante or a Moscato d'Asti, which have wonderful levels of sweetness, fruitiness and acidity in them. In the United States, Muscat is used as a late harvest wine, or dessert wine in both still and sparkling wines. Muscat is also made into sweet wines in Spain and Portugal, and France, and just about every place in the world. Australia also makes an amazing variety of sweet wines from the Muscat grape. So if you ever see a wine labeled Moscato, or Muscat, give it a try. It'll be nutty and delicious, it'll have dried apricot in the fruit flavors, maybe a little bit of spiciness to it. It'll go well with any dessert made from nice fresh fruit like apples or pears, or a nut tort, or even some nice, hard cheeses. So try a Muscat wine for a delicious dessert wine."
