Sauvignon Blanc White Wines

"Hi, I'm going to tell you about Sauvignon Blanc. Sauvignon Blanc is one of my favorite white wines and one of the favorite white wines of wine drinkers throughout the world. It's thought to be native to the Bordeaux region of France where it's part of the famous blend of the white Bordeaux wines. But from Bordeaux it spread really all over the world. They make fabulous Sauvignon Blancs from California, they make fabulous Sauvignon Blancs in the Loire Valley and the newest one on the wine-making world is the Sauvignon Blancs from New Zealand. Sauvignon Blanc, wherever it's grown, tends to have a very very crisp acidity. As a matter of fact, if you're not ready for it, you may think that Sauvignon Blanc is quite tart. Some people even say sour. But don't worry - that's the way it's supposed to taste. I call it palate-refreshing, or thirst-quenching. Sauvignon Blanc has some interesting aromas. One of the most interesting is a little bit of a monia, or what some people call "pipi de chat". And that means exactly what you think it means. "Pipi de chat" is a wine-tasting term that the French people made up to describe a little bit of cat pee. But don't worry, it's just at the top of the glass. And if you breathe deeply a few times, it'll go away. Underneath that original aroma at the bottom of the glass, you should find lots of lemon and lime, and in the warmer growing regions, maybe you'll find peach and apricot flavors. At the top of the glass you almost always get a hint of green grass, or maybe eucalyptus, or green belt pepper in a good Sauvignon Blanc. You might also find a little bit of minerality or a little bit of a nutty herbal flavor. However, no matter where it's from, or what style of wine it is, it's going to be light, and crisp, and go great with your light summer cooking, go great with your seafood, and maybe just on its own for a nice thirst-quenching drink. It's one of my favorites."
