"Hi, my name is Brandon Sarkis on behalf of Expert Village. Today I’m going to show you how to make the holiday favorite Spiced Apple Cider. Alright, now we’re going to go ahead and heat up, this is actually a different pan but you can use the same pan. I’m just doing this to expedite the process, what we’re going to do now is we’re going to heat up our pan, and we’re going to take our cinnamon, our cloves and our peppercorn and we’re actually going to kind of toast them in the pan for just a little bit. You want to keep the pan on high, and you want to keep these things moving around and what we’re doing here is by toasting the outside, we’re going to impart some of that toasted flavor to it. Now you don’t want to burn it and you want to be careful if you’re like me and you’re using a Teflon pan, because the Teflon will actually start to smoke a little bit. So you want to adjust your heat quite a bit and you want to make sure that your cinnamon gets rolled over. What we’re doing here, this is also really pulling out moisture out of these so that any moisture that’s in the cloves, any moisture that’s in the peppercorns, or cinnamon is being extracted by doing this and like I said we’re also by doing this, imparting a nice toasted flavor which will really complement the entire, the flavor profile of the apple cider. So if you’re doing this in large quantities, you would just use a bigger pan and so. This is also, I recommend doing this for a lot of seasonings, like if you’re, if you’re using a, you know, just regular seasonings, you can even toast out salt and pepper, anything like a Cuban, even the powered stuff toasts up really well. You can also do it with anything you can think of, garlic powder, if you want to give your garlic powder a different flavor, you can do this, it works really well with like chili powder, or like paprika, you can always just put it in the pan and toast it like this. You’re going to let this go, like I said about, probably about three minutes total and then pull it off and this is what’s going to go into our dish later. So with that, I’m just going to let it go another minute or so, there’s no need in having you to watch it because it would bore you to death watching this get toasted and when I come back we’re going to start our second boil of our apple juice.
