Series Summary

If Ben Franklin could be persuaded to amend his own words from the afterlife, he might say that dessert is also proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Though everybody has their own idea of what qualifies as dessert, sweet foods are an essential part of the everyday taste experience. Their relatively minor role in the nutritional pyramid belies their powerful ability to bring a sense of instant gratification, signified by an ebullient smile. Perhaps this reaction is more complex than it seems. Perhaps dessert reminds us of home, of everything that’s good, of times spent with mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, over a freshly baked pie or some chocolate chip cookies and milk.

Whatever secrets dessert holds are yet to be fully understood. In the meantime, why not enjoy them? In this free video series, learn how to make several dessert recipes that are sure to satisfy. Marieve Herington shows you how to make a dessert buffet that includes recipes for brownies, apple tart and shortbread. These dessert recipes are easy to make, and are certain to satisfy every type of sweet tooth at your next dinner party.

Video Transcript

"Hi, I'm Marieve Herington with Expert Village and today I am hosting a party for my friends which really throws good nutrition right out the window. Well, It's not really a meal so much as it is an extension of one part of the meal. I'm doing a decadent desert buffet. Now, I've spoken before to what I think a good sweet table is comprised of and I think if you have something that's sort of in the plainer sort of vanilla flavors, that's a good one to have. You need to have chocolate, right ladies, absolutely necessary to make it a complete buffet. And, thirdly, maybe something with a more unusual flavor or a very particular ingredient. So, for today's menu I'm going to do a shortbread, I'm also going to do a triple chocolate brownie. Three kinds of chocolate coming at you all at once and then finish off with a rustic apple tart which tastes as delicious as an apple pie but presents really nicely in a buffet setting. So, let's get started."
