"Hi, my name is Kip and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village. Now that we know what our ingredients should be for this simple pie crust, to make our maple apple pie it's time to combine them. You'll need a large bowl, you take your flour, shorten, salt, we'll add the water later. Then by taking this type of a tool, a pastry cutter or a flat knife or something, you're going to want to cut in the Crisco and blend it with the flour. You want to blend it in at the point where the flour looks like bread crumbs, it makes little probably nearly pea shaped lumps and that it's even all the way through. This takes a few minutes, the trick to pie crust and biscuits or anything that you have to cut in the shorten is not to over do it. You want that just at that right spot, if you do to much mixing then it looses the flakiness, that we enjoy so much. There we have it as you can see it kind of has a crumbly look to it and that is what we're after, we don't want to go much further than that. Now it's time to take our tablespoon and we're going to add three to four tablespoons of chilled water, one, two, three, we're going to go ahead and use four. You can add a little bit more if it's too dry, then with our hands we can just mix that in. What we're wanting to do is come out with just a ball of dough, if it's too wet you went to for usually four will do it in our climate. But you're going to find that depending on where you live in the humidity you use a little less or you use a little more. When we are done make a ball a lot of the little pieces will come off if it's right because it is not the consistency of bread dough, we want it to be kind of lumpy and flaky and tear apart. Now once you're done with this you'll divide it into two parts and usually one just a little larger than the other, the top will be a little smaller and now it's time to roll out our dough."
