"Hi, I'm Jamaica from Jamaica's Cakes in West L.A. on behalf of Expert Village. In this segment of our Black Forest Cake, we're going to be making our simple syrup to moisten the cake. We're going to take equal parts of sugar and water into our saucepan, combining them, adding them to heat and bringing it to a nice simmer dissolving the sugar and created the first part of our simple syrup. Once this has come to a boil and the sugar is fully dissolved, we'll add in our liquor that is needed for the flavor. Now that our sugar has dissolved and our mixture is nice and hot, we're going to take it off of the heat. And, we're going to add in our liquor. I like to use rum. I know that most recipes call for a cherry querce liquor. You can also use brandy. Again, I prefer the rum. And, we'll just let this cool until we need it for our cake."
