"Hi! I'm Bethany Cherry with Expert Village. For the next step we are going to add the buttermilk and vanilla anad the rest of the dry ingredients. In my case I don't have buttermilk so we are going to have to make a substitute for it. What you need is regular milk and vinegar. We are going to take out measuring cup and we are going to put in 2 teaspoons of vinegar. The recipe calls for 1 cup of buttermilk but for high altitudes, they say to do 1 1/4. With the vinegar in there, we are just going to add the rest until it is 1 1/4 cups. All right now that we have our buttermilk made, we are going to add the flour, salt and baking soda alternately with the milk. Now we are going to put the flour in. The recipe calls for 2 /2 cups but for high altitudes we are only going to use 2 1/4 cups. We'll dump that in and we are going to pour in a little bit of the buttermilk and we are going to mix that up. Now we are going to add the baking soda and the recipe calls for 1 teaspoon so we'll put that in and we are going to put a little bit more of the buttermilk and mix it up again. Again, we are going to scrape the sides to make sure tghat everything gets mixed it. Now I am going to add 1 teaspoon of vanilla. Now we are going to add the last ingredient of salt. The recipe calls for 1/2 teaspoon of salt. I've added 1/2 teaspoon of salt and the rest of the buttermilk and I am going to finish mixing it up. Always remember to scrape the sides because you don't want to miss any of the good stuff. "
